DENTON, TX (KNTU) The Denton Broncos (1-6, 0-4) remained winless in District 5-4A after losing 35-14 to Wichita Falls Rider (2-5, 2-2). Rider, the two time defending district champ, won its second straight game behind junior quarterback Malcolm Carter. Carter and the Rider offense struggled to score early in the season after dropping its first five games to ranked opponents. Carter was near perfect, completing 12 of 14 for 154 yards while rushing for 2 touchdowns and 71 yards. Denton was unable to establish its running game behind its third and fourth string running backs. The Broncos managed to gain only 21 yards on 29 carries. Senior quarterback Hunter Dozier made up the difference completing 21 of 25 for 267 yards and 2 fourth quarter touchdown passes to Darren Smith and Billy McCarty. Rider will carry its two game winning streak back home where it will host Lake Dallas next week. Denton will travel to The Colony, who is also seeking its first district win.
