DENTON, TX (KNTU) The Denton Guyer Wildcats continued to impress in its convincing 68-13 victory over the Denton Broncos Friday night.  This year’s victory marks the third straight year Guyer has won the ‘Backyard Brawl’ over the Broncos.

Guyer entered the game with the top rated offense in the area and its offense was on full display in front of its homecoming crowd.  Guyer compiled over 700 yards of total offense while holding Denton to just 128 yards.  Guyer had nine different players reach the end zone.

Guyer junior quarterback J.W. Walsh threw for 284 yards and 4 touchdowns while rushing for 108 yards and 1 touchdown before leaving the game in the third quarter with the win secured.  As a team, Guyer rushed for 422 yards, paced by Sebastian Williams’ 152 yards on just 9 carries.  Williams, filling in for injured back Treavon Walton, was brought up from junior varsity to backup Jaimaine Wilhite. Denton’s offense was stymied by the Guyer defense.  The Broncos managed only 54 yards rushing of which 34 were gained by senior quarterback Hunter Dozier.  Dozier ended the night with 70 passing yards and two interceptions and accounted for the only offensive touchdown for the Broncos in the second quarter.

Denton (1-6, 0-3), who has not won a district game since ’06, will host Wichita Falls Rider (1-6, 1-2) next week at C.H. Collins.  Guyer will travel to Lake Dallas (6-0, 3-0) for a much anticipated showdown and sole possession of first place in District 5-4A.
